Iwate Prefecture has established the “Great East Japan Earthquake Tsunami Museum which is called “Iwate TSUNAMI Memorial”. It opened on Sep.22, 2019 in the Takatamatsubara Tsunami Reconstruction Memorial Park being developed in Rikuzentakata City. The purpose of this facility is to hand down the facts and lessons of the tsunami to future generations not to repeat the tragedy of the Great East Japan Earthquake tsunami. And to comunicate the situation of reconstruction to people both in Japan and overseas.

 

The theme of the exhibition is "Protect life and live with the sea and the earth" Videos, photos, and disaster-stricken materials, those are related to the history of the Sanriku tunami, the Great East Japan Earthquake tsunami, and reconstruction efforts, are exhibited. The facts and lessons of the Great East Japan Earthquake are handed down to future generations so that the tragedy will not be repeated. And comunicating the situation of reconstruction to people both in Japan and overseas, and expressing gratitude to all those who have supported us.

 

Admission is free, so you can use it as a place to learn about earthquakes and disaster prevention, as well as to take a look at the gap time between sightseeing.
