There are 22 wooden sheds as bases for fishing, used for work place, fishing gear storages, etc.
Those had been rebuilt after the Sanriku tsunami in 1958, local fishermen used them for preparations for fishing and shipping farmed wakame(seaweeds), and gathered reputation as the original landscape of the fishing village.
In 2006, they were selected as one of the “100 historical and cultural assets of fishing villages that should be left for the future”.
Unfortunately, they were washed away by the great tsunami of the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011, but with the support of many people, they were reconstructed in a way that restored their previous appearance.
Currently they are a base for various sightseeing tours such as salt making experience, Banya fisherman guide, Banya cooking experience.
